PART TWO!!!
“Self Portrait in Black Shirt” by Frances Cohen Gillespie, “Self Portrait with Cloak” by Pablo Picasso, and “Self Portrait (masque, queen helene)” by Susanna Coffey are all comparable to each other. All three of the self portraits use cool colors in the background which makes the self portrait part stand out more. Also the moods for Frances Cohen Gillespie and Pablo Picasso are both very dark and mysterious whereas Susanna Coffey’s is kinda bright and cheery in a way.
PART THREE!!! I think “Self Portrait as a Young Man” by Rembrandt Van Rihj is the strongest self portrait. It is the most realistic looking one out of all of them. The artist used warms colors and different shades of the same colors. The value of the color is all mostly dark, and the field is mostly shadowy and gets brighter towards the middle. The realism of the self portrait seems to be accurate to how he really looked as a young man.
PART FOUR!!!
I think artists choose to focus on self portraits as a way of expressing themselves even more than expressing themselves through their other works of art. It shows the viewer how the artist feels about themself. It also shows the viewer how the artist seems himself and the way the artist wants others to view them as well.
