Gluttony

The sculpture “Supermarket Lady” was created by artist Duane Hanson in 1969. The sculpture depicts a slightly overweight middle aged woman pushing a grocery cart. The cart is filled to the top with all different kinds of food. The woman is dressed very casually with her hair in a bandana and hair curlers. She is dressed in a plain button up pink shirt with a dark blue skirt and light blue shoes. Around her neck she is a wearing a bright yellow necklace. Hanging from her wrist is long black purse. The woman herself is made out of painted fiberglass, polyester. All the clothes she is wearing are real. The fiberglass and polyester is very smooth and there are shiny spots on her and her face is covered with breakouts. Also her arms have some spots of black and blue bruises. The cart she is pushing is an actual cart filled with actual groceries. Some of these groceries are things like cakes and other types of junk food and different kinds of sodas and drinks. There are also loaves of bread and boxes of frozen dinner. Perhaps the artist Duane Hanson is trying to show a problem in America which still exists today.

Megan, your picture is so cool and really reflects your idea of gluttony. I think you should use more of the vocab words though, but other than that it is great!!!! Love, Jess L.

Definitely a great start, Megan. I liked the last sentence of your critique, how you inferred that the artist is trying to prove the point that America is glutionous. I think that you should try to expand on that point and add some more analyzation into your critique. Overall, a great start to an amazing concept.
